Robert Louis StevensonRobert Louis Stevenson came to Saranac Lake at the height of his fame in 1887. He began writing “The Master of Ballantrae” during his one year stay here. It is believed that he had a different lung disease than TB. He stayed at Baker Cottage, now known as Stevenson Cottage, which boasts an extensive collection of Stevenson memorabilia.
