Dr. Leroy Upson GardnerDr. Gardner arrived in Saranac Lake in 1917 to cure. He lived at 36 (present-day 115) Old Military Road and was director of the Saranac Laboratory from 1926 to 1946. He is known for his pioneering work on pneumoconiosis and silicosis. His studies in the lab were the first to prove a connection between asbestos and cancer.
